How To Remove Brown Spots From Your Skin

Light brown or dark brown skin spots are common with age . In general, brown spots usually appear on the body, although they are more frequent on the hands or face. It is not always associated with old age, since there are much younger people with this aesthetic problem, either due to the effect of the sun or some diseases or the intake of certain medications.

What is certain is that it is common for brown spots to appear on the skin in older people (senile spots), especially on the face and hands, although dark spots on the back, or spots on the legs are also common .  They are also known as age spots. They are flat spots, more or less intense brown, even blackish. Changes in the skin are produced by the aging process itself, since the skin has been more exposed to the sun over the years. Here are some remedies, types, tips and creams that can help soften these spots. The way to eliminate them altogether is through pulsed light or laser treatments.

Causes of skin spots
Why are the spots on the face or spots on the forehead? It is mainly due to these factors:

1. Acne spots on the skin
Acne is one of the most common and frustrating skin conditions. The causes of acne itself can be hormonal, genetic or due to certain medications. Acne is formed due to inflammation of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands (fat producers) of the skin. And this inflammation is caused by bacteria (which are normally present in the hair follicles) that multiply in the blocked hair follicles.

2. Skin spots due to aging
Gray hair and wise words are not the only things that come with aging. Brown spots are the hallmark of aging. And, these spots can have 3 variants:

  • Liver spots sun spots: These are caused by excessive exposure to the sun or other forms of ultraviolet light. They are characterized by having flat brown spots on the skin and are harmless. They are also sometimes called "black spots on the skin," because of the darkness they may have.
  • Purple spots: This condition occurs when small blood vessels called capillaries break and filter blood to the skin. This stain is red and flat at the beginning and gradually turns brown or purple.
  • Seborrheic keratoses: These spots can be smooth with tiny round pearl formations embedded in them, rough and warty, or brown and black. Its cause is unknown and usually appear on the head, neck or trunk.

3. Sun spots on the skin
Apart from the spots on the liver, sun damage can cause melasma. This condition is characterized by irregular dark spots. It is common in pregnant women and in women between 20 and 30 years. It is important to keep in mind that hormonal changes due to contraceptives, pregnancy or postmenopausal hormone therapy, as well as low levels of thyroid hormone could intensify melasma.

In addition to this, sun exposure can also darken freckles. Although they are generally not a cause for concern, they may indicate an increased risk of developing skin cancer.

4. Skin spots by Inheritance (Genetics)
Sometimes, the cause of imperfections in your skin may be in your DNA. Apart from acne, certain genetic disorders could contribute to the formation of spots, such as Darier's disease (which leaves wart-like spots on the forehead), Fabry's disease (caused by the accumulation of a particular type of fat), or other types of spots that are caused by genetics, for example those of birth.

How to prevent age spots?

Since the main reason for the appearance of these brown spots on the skin is the damage caused by the sun's rays, you can take some measures to avoid it as much as possible:

  • Avoid sunbathing in the central hours of the day.
  • Protect yourself from the sun with baggy, fresh cotton clothes.
  • Wear a hat or cap when you are exposed to the sun.
  • Wear sunglasses to avoid eye damage
  • Always use a good sunscreen, at least 50 spf, even on cloudy days.

Home remedies to remove age spots

What can you do to remove spots on the face? These home remedies can help you soften and lower the tone of brown spots on the hands or face:

1. Lemon Juice
Apply the lemon juice directly on the stains. Lemon juice contains an acid that can help break down the melanin pigment and thus reduce the appearance of spots in one or two months. The vitamin C in lemons can also directly bleach the skin. Cut a lemon into slices and place the slices directly on the brown spots. Leave on for about 30 minutes and then rinse with running water.
Warning: Lemon juice makes your skin more susceptible to sunburn, so avoid direct sunlight or use a sunscreen with sun protection factor 30.

2. Potato and honey for skin spots
Grate a potato and mix it with honey. Take a medium potato (any type of white potato will work) and grate it in a bowl. Add enough honey to make a paste.
Apply the mixture on the brown spots.
Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water.

3. Papaya mask
Make a papaya mask. Take out all the papaya pulp and mix it in a bowl until it has a uniform consistency. You can use a manual mixer to crush the fruit well.
Use a cotton swab or a makeup brush to apply the mask on the face and in any other area that has brown spots. Leave the mask on until it dries and rinse with cold water.

4. Yogurt to remove skin blemishes
Apply natural yogurt directly on the face. As a dairy product, yogurt contains acids that can help lighten dark spots. The "good" bacteria in yogurt can also be beneficial, as they are known to contain enzymes that can break down proteins such as melanin.
Rub the natural yogurt over the dark spots that need to "fade".
Leave on until the yogurt dries, and then rinse with cold water.

Some herbs or substances may accentuate the effect of yogurt to remove skin blemishes. Apply the mixture of yogurt and herbs directly on your face and any other spotted area. Leave on until it dries, and then rinse with cold water. The following herbs contain antioxidants and bioflavonoids that can help lighten brown spots when combined with yogurt. These are:

  • 1 tablespoon mustard powder
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric / curcumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel

5. Oxygenated Water
This remedy is very easy and simple because you only have to rub the spots on the skin with a cotton pad dipped in hydrogen peroxide, and with the passing of days and weeks you will notice the results.
